Fortified Minds PLLC
Psychiatric Medication Management
Thoughtful, individualized medication care for adults, teens, and children when medication is clinically appropriate.
What medication management includes
Psychiatric medication management is more than writing a prescription. At Fortified Minds PLLC, care begins with understanding your symptoms, psychiatric and medical history, previous treatment response, current medications, daily functioning, and personal goals. When medication is appropriate, we work collaboratively with you to choose a treatment plan and monitor how it is working over time.
Follow-up visits may include reviewing symptom improvement, side effects, sleep, appetite, mood, anxiety, concentration, functioning, adherence, and any concerns that have developed since the previous visit. Medication may be continued, adjusted, changed, or discontinued when clinically indicated.
Conditions commonly addressed
Medication management may be part of treatment for a range of psychiatric conditions, including ADHD, anxiety disorders, depression, bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, schizophrenia, sleep-related concerns, and other mental health conditions. The recommended plan depends on the individual diagnosis, symptoms, medical history, age, prior treatment, risks, benefits, and personal preferences.

What to expect at your first visit
- Comprehensive review: We discuss the symptoms bringing you to care, their duration and impact, psychiatric history, medical history, current medications, substance use, family history, and relevant psychosocial factors.
- Diagnostic assessment: Your provider evaluates whether your symptoms meet criteria for a psychiatric diagnosis and whether additional information, records, or testing may be helpful.
- Treatment discussion: We review reasonable treatment options, including medication, therapy, lifestyle supports, referral, or no medication when appropriate.
- Follow-up plan: If medication is started or changed, a monitoring plan is established so response and tolerability can be reassessed.
Ongoing monitoring and safety
Medication decisions are made through shared decision-making. Your provider will discuss expected benefits, common and clinically important side effects, alternatives, and relevant monitoring needs. Depending on the medication and your health history, coordination with your primary care clinician, laboratory testing, vital-sign monitoring, or other medical follow-up may be recommended.
If symptoms worsen significantly, you develop severe side effects, or you experience an urgent safety concern, seek prompt medical attention rather than waiting for a routine follow-up appointment.
In-person and telehealth options
Fortified Minds PLLC offers in-person psychiatric services in Virginia and secure telehealth appointments across Virginia, Maryland, Washington D.C., and New York, subject to provider availability and applicable requirements.
